24 Hours of Le Mans, an endurance race held in June, 2019. Kamui Kobayashi passed the qualifying round in first place,
but due to bad luck during the final hour of the race,
he failed to achieve his long-awaited first victory at Le Mans.

Trailing behind others blessed with talent and circumstances, in a position often outside of the spotlight.

Yet he has never given up, using regret as a springboard to overcome his obstacles.

He and his partners have spent the past year
earnestly thinking about what they need to do to win.
They follow the same spirit of self-improvement that
we have cultivated since our founding as GAZOO
Media Service Corporation, the predecessor to
TOYOTA Connected.

“Winning is something that’s extremely important in
my life. I'm not going to shrink back from this challenge.

As long as I have a shot at winning,
I will never back down.”

Kamui Kobayashi

  • Born in Hyogo Prefecture on September 13, 1986.
  • His four-wheeled racing debut came with Formula Toyota in 2002 at
    the age of 15.
  • Starting in 2004, he competed the Formula 3 Euro series of European Formula racing as a member of the Toyota Young Drivers Program (TDP).
  • He began competing as a full-time F1 driver in 2010, and he came in 3rd in the 2012 Japanese Grand Prix.
  • He began competing as a full-time WEC driver in 2016 and earned his first victory at the 2016 6 Hours of Fuji, round 7 of the 2016 World Endurance Championship.
  • He set a new course record at 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2017 and earned a pole position.
  • He also earned the overall victory at the 2019 24 Hours of Daytona as a fill-in driver.
