TOYOTA Connected Human Rights Policy

We as TOYOTA Connected refer to and respect the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) and Toyota’s Human Rights Policy and activities related to human rights based on them.
As a member of the Toyota Group, within every country and every region in which we operate, we aim to be the best company in town that is both loved and trusted by the people, as stated in the Toyota Code of Conduct.
The automotive industry is supported by numerous people, including local communities, suppliers, business partners such as dealers, and customers.
We will continue to protect and improve the human rights of all our stakeholders in order to remain necessary to society.
This policy stands as the highest-level policy related to human rights in our business activities and shall be adhered to by every worker at TOYOTA Connected.

  1. Basic Principle

We recognize that our business processes can have direct or indirect impacts on human rights. We will follow international norms, such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopt the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and Toyota’s Human Rights Policy as frameworks for our human rights practices, and comply with the applicable laws and regulations of each country and region in which we operate.
If there is a conflict between internationally recognized human rights and national laws and regulations, we will strive to the utmost to respect international human rights principles to the greatest extent possible.
In addition, as a provider of the Toyota Group’s mobility services, we will work to protect privacy-related and other data, respect freedom of expression, and appropriately use new technologies, including AI. We will strive to prevent or reduce negative impacts on society by developing and providing products and services in consideration of human rights issues, including infringement of privacy and discrimination.

  2. Scope of Application

This policy applies to all executives and employees of TOYOTA Connected.
We also expect our business partners, including our suppliers and dealers, to understand and agree with this policy, and operate with due respect for it.

  3. Human Rights Due Diligence

In order to fulfill our responsibility to respect human rights, we have established a human rights due diligence system* and continue to operate it in cooperation with our business partners with the aim of preventing or mitigating negative impacts on human rights.
(* A process implemented for the identification, prevention, and mitigation of negative human rights impacts)

  4. Remedy

We will work to prevent adverse impacts on human rights and mitigate any such impacts at an early stage.
If we have caused any negative impact, we will work to correct it through appropriate measures and establish a practical remediation mechanism by expanding the functions of our existing grievance system (TOYOTA Connected Global Hotline).

  5. Education and Training

In order to ensure that this policy is embedded within our internal operations and communicated to our external stakeholders, we provide appropriate education to all our executives and employees and concurrently encourage our business partners to understand our expectations.
We also ensure that this policy is incorporated within the relevant policies and guidelines and necessary procedures so as to become institutionalized across all our corporate activities.

  6. Monitoring and Disclosure

We appropriately disclose the progress and results of our human rights initiatives on the TOYOTA Connected official website and other media.

  7. Dialogue and Consultation

In the process of implementing this policy, we engage in sincere dialogue and consultation with our stakeholders.
